Welcome back and welcome to Term 2.
On our first day of term, we held our school ANZAC Service. It is important that we continue to support and recognise this special event each and every year. I would like to thank Mr Graham Coles, President of Dalby RSL for his valuable time in attending our school service. Then on Friday the weather cleared in time to allow for a huge turnout of numbers for both the school and the community ANZAC Day March. I would like to thank all students, staff and families who were able to come along support and march with the school. It was wonderful to see a sea of blue at Bell Park and along Cunningham Street as our school community marched. Thank you all for your support.
This term there have been a number of updates to our staffing. This term we welcome Mrs Bek Hordern to Prep A as Miss Ella Block took up a teaching position at Pumicestone State School. Miss Nikita King returns back to her class – 5B. And Mrs Teresa Daniels has taken on the additional HPE (Health and Physical Education) teaching position. We are also awaiting on an appointment of a Grounds person to replace Mr Dean Goodwin who took up another employment opportunity. Finally Mrs Penny De Waele is on secondment for Term 2 as a HAT (Highly Accomplished Teacher) Assessor.
At the conclusion of Term 1, parents/carers should have received your child/ren’s Term 1 Interim Report Card. The Interim Report Card provides families an overview of how your child is progressing to date for the subject areas of English, Mathematics and Science. Except for Prep who only report on English and Mathematics. This term, the End of Semester or Semester 1 Report Card will issued in Week 10. This report will provide a semesters overview of your child’s academic, effort and behaviour progress for Semester 1. This year, there have been some changes to reporting with the achievement rating marks for students in Prep to Year 2 changing and changes to how a students behaviour is reported on as well. Further updates about the reporting process will provided later in the term.
This week on Tuesday evening, parents and guardians had the opportunity to catch up and meet with their child’s teacher with our Semester 1 Parent/Teacher Interviews. These interviews provide an opportunity to reflect on the learning made so far and what learning may look like for this term. If you were not able to attend the Parent/Teacher Interviews on Tuesday, I do encourage you to communicate with your child’s teacher to arrange a time to meet and discuss your child’s progress. This can be done face to face or via phone. If you do not have your child’s teacher email address, please call the office.
Since our last newsletter and coming back to school, there have been already a number of sporting and Eisteddfod achievements. Before the school break, Charlton Gowar attended the Regional Trials for Squash at Crows Nest. Even though Charlton did not qualify, selectors were impressed with his performance on the day. We have also had a number of boys attend Rugby League Trials and make the next stages of Regional Trials. Well done to Jack Postle who has made the Darling Downs Team as a shadow (reserve). We have also had students trial for Netball and today we have students trialling for soccer. Then recently over the ANZAC Day weekend our School Dance Team performed at the Kingaroy Eisteddfod. Both our school dance teams performed (Junior and Senior Teams) with both teams placing with the Junior Team coming second and the Senior Team coming first. Congratulations to all our students who have been representing Dalby State School at all the various events.
As the weather starts to change, I ask that families make sure that students are dressed in the proper winter school uniform. Non-school tracksuits, jumpers or track pants will be accepted. The Uniform Shop do have a number of options for Winter Uniforms with some stock being run out/ reduced in pricing. I encourage you to visit the Uniform Shop to look at and purchase the correct uniform. Students who are in non-uniform will be provided with school supplies for the duration of the school day. If you do have any spare uniforms at home, we do encourage you to donate to local charities in town or bring them into the school office.
Have a great long weekend and we will see you all back on Tuesday 6th of May.
Kind regards,
Scott Bach

DSS Shout Out - Charlton Gowar
Charlton took part in the Darling Downs Squash Trials on April 2nd. He played six matches in his pool, winning three. While he wasn’t selected to progress to the next stage, the competition was tough, with around 16 players in his age group and only the top four moving forward. Many strong competitors were present, including a few he regularly plays against locally.
As one of the youngest participants, Charlton made a great impression. The selectors were impressed with his performance and encouraged him to return next year.
