From the Principal
As this week comes to an end, it’s hard to believe that next week we will be in Winter and that we will only have three weeks left of the school term! As we move into the cooler parts of the year, I would like to remind all that students need to be in school coloured tracksuits, school coloured jumpers and/or track pants. If a student is not wearing the appropriate school uniform, I will provide students with the appropriate school wear to wear during the school day. I also encourage families to name all school uniforms. We have a large number of jackets, jumpers and track pants that are brand new that have no name on them. These items will go into the clothing pool.
Last Friday, our Senior Choir performed at the Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) in Brisbane. Our school choir was placed second in the competition! This is a huge achievement for our school and our choir as they were competing against school choirs based from Brisbane schools. Well done to Mrs Kreymborg and the Senior Choir Team on your huge efforts in showcasing how great our school is! Also our Choir received the Harley Mead Encourgement Award as well. Well done to our Senior Singers!
Work on the new installation of the Year 4/5/6 Playground will commence in week 8. The new playground will be relocated to the area between the SEP Demountable and the Multi-purpose Courts. This will be a wonderful addition for our school but especially for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students. The old play area that is located at the back of the school will be removed and this area will be grassed. I would like to thank the P&C Committee for their efforts and support in supporting the school in this project. The P&C were successful in obtaining a $100 000 Super Grant and through extra funding that the P&C have been able to provide, work will commence in week 8. We look forward to this new project going ahead.
Our Year 6’s this week were able to get a Sneak Peek at the latest High School Musical production of ‘Legally Blonde’. Students and staff were able to preview the production on Wednesday. I would like to thank the High School for allowing our students to attend this event. I also wish the students and staff at Dalby High all the best as they present their production.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all of our keen bakers and cooking extraordinaire’s on their efforts in providing yummy goodies, cakes and slices for the Musical bake stall that was held last Friday. Overall, over $2000 was raised which will be used to go towards the expense of hiring sound equipment for the Oliver Jnr Production.
Today our Year 1’s had a wonderful and exciting day at Lake Broadwater! Students were able to participate in a range of activities learning about the Lake, significance of the area and why this natural resource is very important to our local area. Well done to Year 1 on what was an exciting day.
This week we had a number of existing and new families come through our Prep classrooms to experience our ‘Come and Explore’ days in Prep. The idea being that families are invited to come and have a look at our school but especially in our Prep Classrooms. Families had a chance to look, play and chat with our Prep staff and get an experience of how we do Prep here at Dalby State School. We will continue to hold further ‘Come and Explore’ days in the coming weeks with some after hours tours and Saturday morning visits. Further information will be sent out to our families and wider community.
Next week, our Senior Singers will be off to perform at Choral Fanfare in Toowoomba. I wish our Senior Singers all the best as they compete.
Remember to dust off those boots, get on your cowboy hats and saddle up as our Student Council will be hosting a Western Theme School Disco on Friday 13th June. There will be a range of glow products on sale on the night along with the option to pre purchase a slice of pizza and drink combo as well. So round up those jeans and country shirts and dance your way to the school disco.
As always, have a great week and thank you for being a supporter of Dalby State School.
Warm Regards,
