From the Principal
Well that’s a wrap for Term 2!
As this school week comes to a close, we say good by to Term 2 and too, Semester 1! I would like to thank all of our students, staff and parents/guardians for your support over this semester. Next term and semester will be even busier as we work towards a year’s learning and growth before the students roll onto their next year level. Term 3 is quite a big term for our P&C as the they hold the annual Creekside Markets. Then in Term 4 we start to conclude the school year with swimming, Year 6 Transition to High School, Award’s Night, Year 6 Graduation and End of Year School Concert, along with all the other end of year events that always creep up on us very quickly.
Tuesday night, the Dalby Community were able to enjoy an evening of entertainment with the Dalby Eisteddfod Winner’s Concert being held. Well done to Mrs Kreymborg and her Choir Students who scooped the pool at the Dalby Eisteddfod School Choir competition. Our Senior Choir was asked to come and sing their songs at the Winners Concert. Our school choir was awarded first place in the Championship Primary School Choir - Unison and Part.
Last Thursday and Friday we had two huge days of Athletics! Congratulations to all the students who participated in the running and field events over the two days. On Thursday, the 200/800m races where held at Dalby State High School. This was then followed by a number of High Jump events. Then in the afternoon, all the students were out for the 50, 80 and 100m Sprint Heats! Then on Friday, the full day program was held with all field events and the finals of the 50, 80 and 100m races and relays being held. Not to mention the inaugural parent/staff relays along with our Special Guests who also ‘attempted to run’ the 50m! Thank you all for a great two day program with a specials thanks to both Trina Little and Teresa Daniels on their efforts in finalising the Athletics Program. Special mention goes to the following students who were Aged Champions in their year level for the Athletics Carnival:
8 Years Age Champions - Isabelle and Parker
9 Years Age Champions - Lottie and Josh
10 Years Age Champions - Willow and Joey
11 Years Age Champions - Emma and Patrick
12 Years Age Champions - Maddie and Jack
Special mention to the Cunningham Sport House on winning the Overall Trophy for the most Sport House Points awarded. Way to go Cunningham on your efforts!
Our Year 6 students on Tuesday participated in an Energy Incursion provided by Columboola Environmental Education Centre, who worked with the students to investigate the power of Energy, especially Solar Energy. The morning did clear enough for the team to be able to display and work their solar equipment to show students the benefits and use of Solar Energy.
The ‘New Year 4/5/6 Playground’ is OPEN! Most families may have seen the playground on the Athletics Days, but it was opened on Monday for the students. I would like to thank the P&C in their support in achieving this major goal. In all, the total cost of the playground and install was around $120 000. This was made possible through a $100 000 grant from the Community Gambling Benefit Fund and support form the P&C. Our next goal is the installation of a shade structure. This is a goal of the Student Council with support from the school and P&C. The new playground is designed on the concept of the Ninja Warrior Course. Release the Ninja’s!
Today, you should have received your child’s Semester 1 Report Card. These were emailed to families with the email addresses provided to the school office. If you haven’t received your child’s End of Semester Report Card, please check your ‘Spam or Junk Email Files’. If you haven’t received your child’s report, then please call the school office. Hard copies of report cards can be issued to those families who require a hard copy. Or families who need an additional report card emailed to another parent, again please make contact with the school office. Parent/Teacher Interviews will then be offered in early Term 3. This will be a chance to meet with your child’s teacher to review Semester 1’s progress but mainly to review the next steps that your child may need to take in Semester 2. Further information will be released in Week 1 - Term 3 about the Parent/Teacher Evening.
Finally, staffing updates for Term 3. I will continue as the Acting Principal during Term 3, with Mona Anau continuing as the Principal at Dalby State High School. We welcome Mrs Rachelle Svenson back one day a week as she returns from Maternity leave, Mrs Penny De Waele who comes back from her secondment position and returns as the Head of Curriculum and Mrs Mellisa Cover returns from her travels across Australia and returns back to 4B. We will have a number of teachers on leave in Week 1 at C-Gen and other personal leave matters.
Lastly, have a wonderful break and keep warm! For those travelling or going away over the break, safe travels. Once we return, the days should start become a little longer with the hint of Spring on the horizon. Take care and I look forward to working with you all again in Term 3.
Warm Regards,
Scott Bach
