From the Principal
Dear Dalby State School Families,
Welcome back and welcome to Term 3. Term 3 is generally a quiet term in school land, as there are no public holidays, limited interruptions and it’s not a reporting term. This generally allows the staff to teach and students to learn with limited interruptions.
Last Thursday our Preppies celebrated 100 Days of Prep! This years theme being ‘100 Days Smarter!’ In recognition of this major milestone, our Preps went over to Urban Paddock for a milkshake and cup cake to celebrate.
I would like to provide you all with some staffing updates that have taken place for Term 3. Miss Louise Bunyan from 1B has had to take some leave, with Ms Sagan Long backfilling Louise while she is away. Ms Long has joined Dalby State School from Cecil Plains P-9 State School where she was co-teaching on a P-3 Class. We welcome Sagan to 1B and also to Dalby SS. As our school enrolments continue to grow, especially in our Year 1 and Year 3 classes, we have supported these classes by adding an additional teacher to support both year levels. Mrs Deanna Wilson has joined Year 1 and Miss Fiona Ellem has joined Year 3. This has allowed for greater flexibility and support in both of these year levels as their numbers grow. Also this term, Mrs Penny De Waele returns back as the Acting Head of Department - Curriculum. Penny returns from a secondment position during Term 2. And Mrs Mellisa Cover returns back to her 4B class. Mellisa returns to co-teach with her teaching partner Mrs Naomi Cleary.
Coming up in Week 4, will be Parent/Teacher Interviews. These will take place on Tuesday 5th August in the Kavney Hall. Information has already gone out to families via the SchoolZine App. If you haven’t received any information about the upcoming Parent/Teacher Interviews, please make contact with the school office. These interviews provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to meet with their child’s class teacher. The focus of these interviews is looking back Semester 1 but more so, looking forward to Semester 2 and what steps may need to be taken in order to make further academic progress.
School Opinion Survey information may have landed in your email inbox. Parents are invited to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey (SOS) and provide your opinions about Dalby State School. SOS is a confidential survey and no-one at your school or in the department will know the responses you have provided. Responses from all staff and the parent body are aggregated and reported back to the school. The survey will be available until Friday, 22 August 2025, and should take less than ten minutes to complete. Access the link to start your survey, which can be completed on any computer, tablet or smart phone.
In a trial for the first 3 weeks of Term 3, we have increased the eating time at 2nd break. Meaning that students will have 15 minutes to eat, rather than 10 minutes. In our trial, students at 2nd break, Play 1.00-1.25pm and then Eat 1.25-1.40pm. This is a trial to see if this supports students with more eating time and to support students accessing Tuckshop at 2nd break. We will regroup and discuss this trial with our school and Tuckshop staff and the P&C to see if this change in eating time remains.
This Friday our Year 4 Cohort will be attending their excursion to Amaroo Environmental Education Centre. This will be a great experience for our Year 4’s. Then next Friday our school based Dance Team will be performing at the Toowoomba Dance Eisteddfod. Our Junior and Senior Dance Team will be traveling to the Toowoomba Eisteddfod to participate. All the best to Mrs Rodgers and to the Dance Teams as you compete in this competition.

Also Term 3, marks Creekside Markets! This year Creekside Markets will be held on Saturday 6th September 2025 at the Dalby Showgrounds. Preparations are already under away with organising this year’s markets. In the coming weeks, families and the wider community can assist with the Creekside Markets by making a donation of ingredients with our Pantry Stock Drive. This provides invaluable cooking supplies for our avid bakers to make supplies for the delicious Creekside Market Bake Stall or you can assist by decorating and filling bottles for the famous Bottle Stall! This year the competition will be running again for the class who brings in the most bottles winning a class pizza party!
As always, say hello or make a time to speak with me or your child’s class teacher. We are here to help and support our students.
Kind regards,
Scott Bach
