From the Principal
This issue of our school newsletter is a celebration and recognition of the cultural and sporting endeavours our students have been participating in.
This week on Monday and Tuesday we had a small number of students attend the Darling Downs (DD) Regional Sporting Trials in Toowoomba. Well done to the following students who took part in DD Trials; Imali, Joey, Charlotte, Lacey, Maddie, Emma, Jackson and Darcy. A special mention to Maddie who has progressed to the next level. Maddie has the opportunity to particpate and represent Darling Downs at the State Trials held in Townsville.
Wednesday last week, we had a school netball team participate in the Primary Schools Netball Gala in Toowoomba. The students played exceptionally well, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Last Thursday our U12 Rugby League team played in the finals of the Wayne Beeston Cup against St Mary’s College Toowoomba with the finals being held at the Dalby Leagues Club. Our team, quickly showed St Mary’s that our boys were not to be messed with, scoring the first try. Both teams then continued to match each other scoring tries. At full time, the result ended being a draw. After a quick discussion it was decided that an additional 5 minute game time be played. With both teams absolutely exhausted, St Mary’s unfortunately at the 4th minute were able to score the winning try. Well done to St Mary’s but most of all to our U12 Rugby League Team on their efforts on the day and the way they played. I would also like to thank the efforts of Trina Little as the coach of this team.
On Sunday we had a small contingent of students (and staff) participate in Opti-Minds. Dalby State School has been participating in Opti-Minds or previously known as Tournament of Minds for the past 36 years! Our small team consisted of Harvey, Hugh, Georgia, Hazel and Ngaire. Our students didn’t come away with a placing but the experience of participating was most rewarding. I would also like to thank Mrs Emma Thornley, Ms Sammi Sharples and Mrs Lyn McKeon for supporting the students.
On parade this week, students who participated in the Hermitage Science Challenge got to showcase their work. This years theme for The Hermitage Science Challenge "Insects in Agriculture". From our school the following students entered the competition; Abigail, Emily, Dallas, Evelyn, Anastasia, Penelope, Connor, Kate and Maryanne.
